Shing Tung Leung, Wai Yip Leung, Xiao Ming Ye, Kin ka Lam completes Oxfam Trailwalker 2023 first in just 12 hours 42 minutes

In just 12 hours and 42 minutes, team no. 8001 was the first team to complete Oxfam Trailwalker (OTW) 2023. Their team members are Shing Tung Leung, Wai Yip Leung, Xiao Ming Ye, Kin ka Lam (photo 1). Team no. 8129 came in a close second at 13 hours and 27 minutes. Their team members include Faton LaurentBonnard JulienWong Wai HungFoucher Nicolas (photo 2).

 

Team members of 8001 said, 'Three of our teammates suffered from cramps during the event, but we managed to overcome the difficulties and finished the event successfully.'

 

Kalina Tsang, Director General of Oxfam Hong Kong and representative of AIA Hong Kong & Macau (OTW’s Principal Sponsor) greeted the first team at the Finish Point and presented them with certificates. (photo 3).

 

Around 850 teams, or roughly 3,400 participants, are taking part in OTW 2023. In teams of four, participants need to complete the 100 km trail, which runs along the MacLehose Trail and other trails, within 48 hours. The OTW trail begins in Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung and ends at Crossroads Foundation in Tuen Mun (former Perowne Camp).

 

The OTW is one of the largest hiking fundraising events in Hong Kong.All the funds raised through the event will go towards OHK’s poverty alleviation projects, benefiting vulnerable communities and impoverished populations in Hong Kong and worldwide who are affected by climate change.

Oxfam Trailwalker (previously called ‘Trailwalker’) began in Hong Kong in 1981 as a military training exercise for the elite Queen’s Gurkha Signals Regiment. In 1986, Oxfam Hong Kong was invited to co-organise the event and in the same year the event was open to the public. Along with the retreat of the Gurkhas in 1997, Oxfam Hong Kong took over the event.
