Over 16 million of Mozambique’s 21.6 million people live in extreme poverty. Natural disasters and AIDS ravage the country.
Oxfam Hong Kong’s has been working in Mozambique since 1987.
Oxfam’s programmes are currently implemented in Sofala, Inhambane and Tete (the poorest provinces, in the southern and central areas) and Zambezia (which suffered the most in the civil war), with a focus on:
- livelihoods, community development and disaster risk reduction
- basic education project in Zambezia, helping young girls towards attaining an education
